He passed this way...

The Corpus Christ procession
passing through Whitehall village, Stronsay.

Lauda Sion Salvatórem

Lauda ducem et pastórem
In hymnis et cánticis.

Sion, lift up thy voice and sing:
Praise thy Savior and thy King,
Praise with hymns thy shepherd true.

Flower petals are strewn on the road
before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

Let the praise be loud and high:
Sweet and tranquil be the joy
Felt today in every breast.

On this festival divine
Which records the origin
Of the glorious Eucharist.

Near the end of the village the barge,
the
St Alphonsus, is waiting as the second Station.

Our Lord in incensed before the Benediction
at the second Station

Dogma datur Christiánis,

Quod in carnem transit panis,
Et vinum in sánguinem.

Hear, what holy Church maintaineth,
That the bread its substance changeth
Into Flesh, the wine to Blood.

Kneeling for the Benediction,
a mother, her infant and twins.

Benediction at the second Station.

Doth it pass thy comprehending?
Faith, the law of sight transcending
Leaps to things not understood.

Here beneath these signs are hidden
Priceless things, to sense forbidden,
Signs, not things, are all we see.

Flesh from bread, and Blood from wine,
Yet is Christ in either sign,
All entire, confessed to be.

Praying the Holy Rosary.
The barge part-way between Stronsay and Papa Stronsay.
The procession arrives on Papa Stronsay.

Incensing at the third Station.

His Divine Majesty, Jesus Christ, in the Monstrance
placed on the throne in the Holy Face chapel

before the final Benediction.

He, the Lord of lords and King of kings, passed this way.

Jesu, shepherd of the sheep:
Thou thy flock in safety keep,
Living bread, thy life supply:
Strengthen us, or else we die,
Fill us with celestial grace.

Thou, who feedest us below:
Source of all we have or know:
Grant that with Thy Saints above,
Sitting at the feast of love,
We may see Thee face to face.
Amen. Alleluia.

  1. Dear Fathers and Brothers,
We are so delighted to have been able to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi and join in the procession with all of you at Stronsay/Papa Stronsay. What an incredible experience with praying the rosary before the monstrance on a barge while sailing across the bay!
Thank you so very much for your wonderful hospitality, the fantastic supper-feast, and the chance to have celebrate it all with you monks, your friends, and your family.
We just arrived at the farm a half hour ago. Have all of the kids in bed. The ferry crossing was as smooth as silk and very peaceful. Goodnight now and God bless!

  3. How wonderful these precious traditions are still followed. In my Parish we have "The Body and Blood of Christ" instead of Corpus Christi. No procession of course and our homily (I expect) will be the usual one, which we get every week regardless of the Feast Day, about Social Justice! Sigh.

  4. Father, thanks for visiting my blog! I've since updated the post and added more details - I was too tired to write much the first time around. We are still glowing with joy from our visit and the blessing of celebrating the feast of Corpus Christi with all of you!

(Poor Jean is stuck with the Feast Of Social Justice...)
