The Charnetsky arrived some time ago at Papa Stronsay, but has not done any serious service since it was not really in a suitable condition. Over the last few weeks, Father Anthony and David, a postulant from the United States, have been working to get it up to scratch. See some photos of the progress:
David has an engineering degree which is being put to good use!
Fitting one of the new sampson posts. Squashed in the front of the boat, David screws the nuts...
...while Father Anthony holds the bolts to stop them turning.
Sorting out the wiring...
...and a bit of painting.
There's a little way to go yet, but please God she will serve us well in the future.

Thanks to Fr. Tim Finigan, I have only just discovered your blog, and I'm sorry I didn't do so sooner. It's a very accessible mix of spirituality and stories of daily life on Papa Stronsay.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work (and good luck with the Charnetsky)!
Good to see you've put David to work ;) Love from his Mom & Dad
ReplyDeletePraise God for the works you are doing and fo rsharing these images and stories with us! With prayers, a friend of David's,

A new Boat Of Doom!! It's lovely really. I'm just a water wimp. I don't know how to swim and so water terrifies me.
ReplyDeleteWhen we come next to visit you'll have to pick us up with your barge: what with three babies and all of the diapers, food, bottles of milk, bibs, etc necessary even for a ten minute outing...
