Septuagesima Season
We do not now deserve To sing the Alleluia forever; Guilt forces us To dismiss you, O Alleluia. For the time approaches in which We must weep for our sins. [Ancient Hymn]
Notwithstanding our adoption as sons and daughters in Christ through baptism, we remain "poor banished children of Eve", "mourning and weeping in this valley of tears" (Ave Regina). Why else would we need the sacrament of penance? :-)
I hope that the tradition of Septuagesima will soon recover its rightful place in the post-Vatican II liturgy as part of the Benedictine reform.
