Coronation Day - 1911

Today 100 years ago was the Coronation Day of King George V.
Representing the then reigning Pope, St Pius X,
at the coronation was the future
Venerable Pope Pius XII, the then Msgr Eugenio Pacelli.

One evening in 1936
St Pio of Pietrelcina
was conversing with some friends in his cell.
Among those present were
Dr Guglielmo Sanguinetti and Angelo Lupi,

who would respectively become the medical director
and the builder of Padre Pio’s hospital years later.

In the middle of their conversation,
Padre Pio suddenly interrupted the discourse with the words,
“Let us pray for a soul soon to
appear before the tribunal of God.”

With that he bowed his head, and his guests, although astonished,
knelt and joined him in prayer.

When they had finished,
Padre Pio announced that they had been
praying for the
King of England.

The next morning, the news reached them
of the death of
King George V
the previous evening.

Spare a prayer for
King George and Queen Mary today.

Thank you for this recorded piece of our history.
The Padre Pio story is amazing, particularly considering the 'legend' of George V's converion on his death bed. Do you have any support or evidence for that conversion?

Thank you and with my prayers as always.

Thank you again for yet another wonderful and edifying post. It reminds us to not be so forgetful in praying for the dying or the Holy Souls in Purgatory. May God grant His blessing and plentiful wisdom to all the Kings and Queens in every land throughout the earth ~ all of whom are still servants, just like us, under His own Supreme and Sovereign Rule!

That is an amazing story about St. Pio.

Fr. Michael, please pray for our friend Scott. The doctors have abandoned all hope for him. Sarah is attending to him around the clock. Scott is still out and about, so the end is not near by any means. Still the situation is very grave. I'm going to post a petition to OLPS. Thank you!

Oh, my.

As I was scrolling down, at first I thought this was Tsar St. Nicholas II.

Truly, their resemblance has always been noted by others.
