An Open Letter to the Catholic Bishops, Priests, Religious and Faithful

Dear Catholic Soul,

We have just concluded our General Chapter where we considered our Congregation and its vocation in the Church and in the Diocese of Christchurch, New Zealand where the Bishop had decreed its expulsion.

The attached letter expresses the convictions of our Congregation.

This is not a task we embrace lightly. We have considered the array of possible punishments that the hierarchy may use against us - all mentally terrifying really, yet buttressed in the knowledge that the hierarchy has broken with the chain of command, which renders it human, and spiritually null. But when Our Lord’s honour is at stake, silence becomes a form of betrayal. We therefore take up this work with trembling hearts but with firm conviction, desiring only to defend the Holy Name of Jesus Christ and the purity of His Spouse, the Church.

Every one therefore that shall confess Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father Who is in Heaven. But he that shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father Who is in Heaven.

(Matt. 10:32)

Please led the way. The sheep are scattered. We have no pope but rather wolves in shepherd's clothing. V2 is straight out of hell and its leaders blind non-papal matter at best. Pope St Callistus, pray for us.

1 Maccabees 2:51-64
51 And call to remembrance the works of the fathers, which they have done in their generations: and you shall receive great glory, and an everlasting name.

52 Was not Abraham found faithful in temptation, and it was reputed to him unto justice?

53 Joseph in the time of his distress kept the commandment, and he was made lord of Egypt.

54 Phinees our father, by being fervent in the zeal of God, received the covenant of an everlasting priesthood.

55 Jesus, whilst he fulfilled the word, was made ruler in Israel.

56 Caleb, for bearing witness before the congregation, received an inheritance.

57 David by his mercy obtained the throne of an everlasting kingdom.

58 Elias, while he was full of zeal for the law, was taken up into heaven.

59 Ananias and Azarias and Misael by believing, were delivered out of the flame.

60 Daniel in his innocency was delivered out of the mouth of the lions.

61 And thus consider through all generations: that none that trust in him fail in strength.

62 And fear not the words of a sinful man, for his glory is dung, and worms:

63 To day he is lifted up, and to morrow he shall not be found, because he is returned into his earth; and his thought is come to nothing.

64 You therefore, my sons, take courage, and behave manfully in the law: for by it you shall be glorious

Every. Word. Authority exists to serve the Truth. When the Authority ceases to serve the Truth, he loses his authority. These false shepherds have forced faithful Catholics to choose between the two.

I've always thought of Gal. 1:8-9 as being prophetic in the sense that we were being warned that one day the apostles (rather, their successors) would preach a different gospel and how to respond to such a scenario.
May God who has begun this good work in you bring it to completion in the day of Christ Jesus.

I just wanted to congratulate you on taking this public stance.

I would strongly encourage you to get all of the priests who belong to your order whose orders in any way arise from those ordained or consecrated in the Paul VI rites conditionally ordained so that there is no doubt as to the validity of their orders.

While there is doubt as to the validity of their ordinations Catholics must follow Church teaching on the matter and treat them as though they are invalid. This means we cannot trust the sacraments at any chapel were there are a mix of priests ordained by diocesan clergy and the bishops affiliated with the SSPX, which is a horrible situation to place the faithful in.

Fix this and I have friends in Christchurch who will support your mission.

What you have done takes great courage. It is never easy for any of us to admit that we made a mistake, but it is comforting to know that the mistake was made in good faith, trusting Churchmen who, it seems, no longer possess the true faith handed down. My only caution is that you do not allow your bitter disappointment to lead you into the opposite extreme of sedevacantism, which is as deadly to the soul as Modernism, driven, as it is, by bitter zeal. Take the position once again of Archbishop Lefebvre, which is firm resistance to the errors of superiors in the Church without entering into a forbidden judgement of their souls or the audacity of declaring them illicit and deposed. We must resist in charity and patience, not bitterness, until Our Lord puts an end to this crisis. He is still fully in charge of His Church despite appearances.
Thanking God for the grace of His Holy Ghost for this enlightenment. You may want to reach out to those who are likeminded i.e. the Catholic Resistance (priests and Bishops who continue the position of Archbishop Lefebvre). They have a priest there in New Zealand, Rev. Fr. Edward MacDonald (formerly of the SSPX), who is a family friend of ours.

Thank you all so much for taking this stand against the evils in the Church. I know that you are mainly Brothers, but we need some traveling Priests in Scotland for those of us unable to access Traditional Sacraments, but we need Priests who are known to be bona fide, not dubious Sedes. I am assuming here that I am not the only one in this position - too far from the SSPX.

If you and the SSPX (who are under-represented in Scotland) would discuss some kind of re-alliance it would be great - at least working side-by-side. I know there have been problems between you but perhaps now would be a good time for both to reconsider your positions. I have read (not confirmed) that the SSPX have discontinued conditional re-ordinations, which I (who am no expert!) believe was a mistake, if it is true. Perhaps the SSPX might also admit they haven't always made wise decisions?

Praying for you as always - and now that God will bring some greater good from your situation. May He bless you and always guide you!

Schism from what? Pachamama? Sodomite Blessings? Heretics? Whoever you are, you know not Our Lord nor His Immaculate Bride.

Blessed be God that they received the grace to see the reality that the Vatican II sect is not the Catholic Church. Ave Maria Purisima!

Extreme hypocrisy, claiming to be "true Catholics" - yet acting against the teachings of the Catholic Church throughout all ages. I pray for you, who are in a position to instruct the Faithful, may you turn towards the Lord and praise him rightfully. It is unjust to turn your back to the Lord, claiming to serve Him but putting down his Words with your actions. May you recognise your wrongdoings and correct this. Repent.

Have you no shame? No Faith at all? To be misusing the name of the Lord for your personal gain, all while rejecting his teachings is on another order. I pray that you find the true path to the Lord and worship him in union with the one Catholic Church.

Please let me know when you have an example of the SSPX admitting that they haven't always made wise decisions.

It is wonderful that the monks have taken the lead in really speaking out unequivocally about the crisis with concrete examples of the many errors of Pope Francis to confront those with a foot in both camps. Perhaps a few consciences will be touched now.

A pefidious non-Catholic is never the Vicar of Christ. It is an objective blasphemy against the promise of Our Lord to St Peter to hope so. It is Catholic to accept the mystery of a long interregnum. It is not Catholic to recognise promulgators of heresy as Vicar's of Christ. Our Lady of Good Counsel, pray for us.

Thank you all for taking a stand against the blatant heresy in the hierarchy. I pray your actions create a snowball effect in the church. If a parent tells a child to participate in an evil act, that child is not disobedient to refuse . We cannot turn our backs on the true teachings of the church. We may have a Pope, but I question whether he is a good shepherd or a hireling.
Thank you! God bless you all!

Pilate: Knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and I have power to release thee?
Jesus: Thou shouldst not have any power against me, unless it were given thee from above.

The superior may be a Pilate, but the Redemptorist Brothers should follow Christ's example and listen to the order of a Pilate (in this case, request for relocation of 15 monks) by following what certainly looks like a call for crucifixion. You just risked exclusion from the Catholic Church and rather than suffer with all Catholics the evil that is happening at the top and which you rightly rebuke, you are trying to deny suffering. Where exactly are you going? Into another schism? All Catholics need to stay in the Church. If evil has been given power over Catholics, we take it like Christ took it, in silence, in prayer, to death. Being removed from Orkney is not your sin and does not mean you are no longer serving the Lord.

May Our Lady keep you safe under her mantle.
Bless,
Maria

This is very sad news because it is so hard to understand. On one hand, making a righteous stand is admirable and defends the Church, but on the other, splitting from the hierarchy is simply schism, which is the road leading away from God.
I understand the pain, and indeed the threat, and the heart searching to find a solution which has not been rewarded and left you feeling isolated. But there is no joy in schism, only pride.
So how do you reconcile your decision with your deep grasp of the ancient Faith in a Chuch which cannot be divided?
The Catholic Church exists both within and outside time, the vast majority of her members having gone before us, including the Orthodox popes who being silenced by the modernist hierarchy.
This disobedience is however a blip - a temporary reality, however painful and confusing.

So my prayer is that you find a way to accept the discipline so ignorantly and unfairly dealt to you, and in faith persist, not in obedience to the hypocrites, but in obedience, as you are already accustomed, to the ancient, united orthodoxy of the eternal Holy Catholic Church.
You are a stroger prophetic witness to the truth inside the Church, however wrong headed it is, than outside it, where you will attract rebels and court your own obscurity.
Is it too late to find a way back?
Athanasius said…
Phil, I think you misunderstand the nature of obedience and unity in the Church. Unity is first a duty binding superiors (popes/prelates) to absolute fidelity to the faith handed down. When they fail in this duty, abusing the authority of their office to impose a new Mass of Protestant origin and forbidden doctrines, such as ecumenism and religious liberty, which are heresies previously condemned by the Church, then it is not only a right of subordinates to call them out, it's a duty before God. St. Paul gave the example when he "rebuked Peter to his face because he was to be blamed". St. Robert Bellarmine and other great theologians of the Church have also declared that if a Pope or prelate says or does something harmful to the faith then we must not obey them. Additionally, we must do all in our power to resist their error. To ignore dangerous errors that break with Traditional teaching and threaten the faith is called "indifference" and is the reason why the Church today is in the woeful state it is. Too many Catholics today speak of keeping unity with a particular Pope, forgetting that Catholic unity consists in fidelity to what has been handed down throughout the centuries and not to individual popes who abuse their authority to deviate from it. There is no question that the Popes since Vatican II are not teaching the same faith as their predecessors all the way back to the Apostles - they are preaching a different form of Catholicism which is largely humanist. We are obliged by our Confirmation duty to call this out and resist it. Sadly, in this regard, Archbishop Lefebvre lamented "The martyrs sacrificed their lives for the faith, now they sacrifice the faith". One final point. When Pope Benedict XVI issued Summorum Pontificum, he confirmed what a lot of Traditional Catholics already knew, which is that the ancient Latin Mass of the saints and martyrs has never been abrogated by any post-Vatican II Pope and is therefore freely available to any priest who wishes to celebrate it. He further noted that no Pope or bishop need be consulted in the matter since this sacred rite is an ancient and venerable rite handed down through the centuries. Consequently, any move by a Pope or bishop to suppress this sacred rite of Mass under any pretext is illicit and should be disregarded by both priests and faithful. No Pope or bishop in the Church has the authority to suppress the Latin Mass. Pope Francis knew this very well, as does his successor Pope Leo. Hence, they are the ones who threaten unity in the Church, not those who understand and resist their abuse of authority. You need to understand then that unity sometimes means we have to speak out against that which threatens it.
Hello Phil,
Thank you for your thoughts on our Open Letter. We have not gone anywhere. We are the same people as we ever were. It is only right to speak out. Surely that can be done without being thought to have left the Church. The thing is, this is a strange abnormal situation in her history. There are many different responses to what we are all living through. It is in the devil's interest to have us think that we "leave the Church" as soon as we speak up for the truth revealed by Our Lord Jesus Christ. You do not leave the Church by repudiating what God Himself repudiates, as He does in Genesis, in the First of the Ten Commandments etc. This is what we are supposed to do, and do at any cost; and all Catholics should do it, and do it publicly. For example write to your priest and ask him where he stands, ask your bishop where he stands. Silence in these days is not a virtue, it can be complicity. With all that has gone on, at this point in time the Church should be very, very rowdy; standing up for God's law and especially for the person of Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Sweet Mother, Most Holy Mary, the Mediatrix of All Graces. We assure you of our thanks for your comment and of our hope that you will join the few voices in the Church repudiating the errors and heresies that are being sown in our midst.
